When to travel to Czech Republic: weather and seasonsCzech Republic Climate and WeatherThe climate of the Czech Republic is characterised by warm, humid, wet summers and very cold, dry winters, with a marked variance from one region of the country to another. Basically it has a Central European moderate and transitional climate, with variations resulting from the topography of the area. The land locked character of the country and its diverse geographical terrain results in a vast temperature difference between the summer and winter months. The climate differs markedly among the various regions, depending on the height above sea level. The mountains in the north of the Czech Republic experience more severe weather, with around 50 days of snowfall during winter. The level of precipitation in the Czech Republic is greatest in January and least in June, with the maximum temperature in the month of August and the lowest in January. During March, April and May, the temperatures usually increase rapidly and especially during April the temperatures and weather tend to vary a lot during the day. The best weather is in the summer but the region is also the most crowded during July and August as well as during the holiday periods of Christmas, New Year's, and Easter. However, although June, July and August are the warmest months in the Czech Republic the heat is accompanied by rains and storms. Early autumn or late spring also bring good weather and smaller crowds so these may be the best times for a visit. Winters are relatively mild (the average January temperature is -2°C (28.4°F) and summers are not too hot (the average July temperature is 20°C (68°F), so you can travel to the Czech Republic at any time without being too concerned about the weather. You should note though, that the weather at any given time may differ significantly from the long-term average! The capital, Prague, experiences temperatures ranging from -4°C (25°F) during winter, to 23°C (73°F) during summer in July, which is the height of the tourist season.
