Bars and Nightlife in Venice
It's certainly not Paris or Las Vegas, but Venice has it's own unique scene going from the Casino to the more attractive aspect of the many bars and restaurants where, mirabile dictu, you can actually hold a conversation without shouting (although there are the other kind, too)!
Casino:
Casinò Municipale di Venezia
Bars:
San Marco
Caffe' Florian
Historical Venetian bar in San Marco Square, opened in 1720 by Floriano Francesconi under the name Venezia Trionfante. Since its opening, Florian’s has always been frequented by an illustrious clientele (Goldoni, Casanova, Byron, Proust, Rousseau etc.). You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner, afternoon tea, cocktails, refreshments and in the evening there are the well-known chamber concerts outside.
Harry's Bar - Cipriani
San Marco 1323, Calle Vallaresso (Harry's Bar is last on the left)
Harry's Bar is one of the world's most celebrated restaurants, opened (in 1931) and run by the Cipriani family. Comfortable banquettes, wood trim everywhere, yellow tablecloths and rather small shot glasses but large bills. Clientele has included the Aga Khan, Orson Welles, Truman Capote, Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, and of course, Ernest Hemingway who not only set scenes in the bar in his novel "Across the River and into the Trees" but used to have his own table in one corner.
