The Lascaux Cave, with its famous cave paintings, is the finest of the prehistoric caves in the Périgord Noir region.
Lascaux was discovered by four young lads in 1940, but it has been closed to visitors since 1963. A replica cave was created and visitors can experience Lascaux and its prehistoric cave paintings in the recreated Lascaux II.
