Tony Page's Book Recommendations: Ireland |

Ireland (Eyewitness Travel Guides)394 pps, revised 2007, and worth every penny (Irish or otherwise!). Good Dublin section, and "hundreds of color photos of everything from the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare to the Connemara landscape of County Galway to out-of-the-way pubs and street-by-street illustrated city walks. You'll also find listings for Aran sweaters, Waterford crystal, and Celtic recordings." I found the background information particularly interesting, but buy a good roadmap of Ireland if you're driving! |

Dublin (Eyewitness Travel Guides)Not too hefty at 176 pp, but detailed enough on Southeast Dublin, Southwest Dublin, and North of the Liffey. You'd have to be spending a while in Dublin to make this worthwhile if you have the Ireland guide, but it's a beautiful souvenir and contains enough background information to satisfy even James Joyce fans (OK, maybe not, but you get the picture).

Dublin (Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guides)This is Dublin Lite, but it would be more than enough for a few days there. Good on the nightlife and pubs (not synonymous, believe it or not!) . However, a lot of the information in this is actually contained in the general Ireland guide above, although there's a little more practical material. |
