Beethoven Festival in Bonn

This year‘s Bonn Beethoven Festival promises an innovative program that will do justice to Beethoven’s pioneering role as a visionary, revolutionary and enlightened cosmopolitan composer.

The theme of the Festival: ‘Into the open. Utopia and Freedom in Music’ is inspired by one of Friedrich Hölderlin‘s poems and focuses on music from the end of the 18th century and the dawn of the 19th. Held between between 10 September and 9 October 2010, there’ll be 67 events held at 25 venues.

The Beethoven Festival hopes to create exclusive ideas for concerts by working with musicians and performers who regularly appear at the Festival – often experimenting with different combinations. They include Hélène Grimaud, this year‘s artist in residence, Kent Nagano, Martin Grubinger and Sol Gabetta.

The German Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Bremen is returning to the 2010 Bonn Beethoven Festival as the orchestra in residence to be joined by the National Orchestra of France, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Beethoven Orchestra of Bonn.

The 2010 Bonn Beethoven Festival showcases four pieces by Peter Ruzicka, the composer and artist in residence, including the premiere of über die Grenze… (Across the Border …), a work for cello and orchestra.
