Eating out in Venice – Christmas in Europe
Having done a whole lot of research into restaurants that are open during the winter season, we forgot to bring this information with us! We stopped at St Mark’s Square to check out the restaurants there, however the place looked deserted and lacking in atmosphere. What a huge contrast to the summer months when the square is full of live and people dining al fresco. Tony vaguely recalled a couple of recommended places in the Cannaregio district and so we headed for the Rialto Bridge. We wove our way around the many back streets and came across numerous restaurants and trattorias, the but the names did not ring a bell.
Finally, being cold and tired, we settled for a trattoria that looked reasonable. The food was standard fare, but good enough to give us energy to make our way back to Sant’Elena by boat.
