Coimbra University (Universidade de Coimbra) is Portugal's oldest and largest university and was founded by King Dinis in 1290.
Coimbra University's library "Biblioteco Joanina" is a national treasure and in its collection are books dating to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
Our visit to Coimbra was specifically to see its magnificent Biblioteco Joanina, however, as photography is not permitted in the library, this gallery mostly contains photos of Coimbra University buildings and grounds.
