St Petersburg is the cultural capital of Russia and a highlight of any visit here is a visit to the spectacular Hermitage Museum. The Hermitage is housed in the Winter Palace, once the home of the Tsars - and there's much of Imperial Russia to see in this city. Exploring the main sights of St Petersburg on our own was quite easy and we also took in a cruise on the Neva River.
