Created to the order of Marie de Medicis, the widow of Henry IV, in imitation of the Pitti Palace in her home city of Florence, the Jardin du Luxembourg, or the Luxembourg Gardens, is today the second largest public park in Paris (22.5 hectares). Located in the 6th arrondissement, it's a popular weekend spot for Parisian families and their children. The park is the garden of the French Senate, which sits in the Luxembourg Palace.
